Kalen DeBoer Not Talking About Drops with Ryan Coleman-Williams

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Despite two drops in Saturday's 38-point win against East Carolina, Ryan Coleman-Williams was the Tide's leading receiver with five receptions for 130 yards against the Pirates. One of his drops was in the corner of the end zone, which would have resulted in Keelon Russell's first passing touchdown as Alabama's starting quarterback.

Despite the drops, head coach Kalen DeBoer isn't talking with his top receiver about it, with both him and Coleman-Williams understanding that he needs to get better and hold himself to the high levels of expectation they both have.

"Yeah, I mean, he’s got a high-level expectation for himself. We haven’t even talked about it, but I’ve been around him long enough to know what his expectation is," DeBoer told reporters on Monday. "And I also know, he has been around long enough with him, what that response is going to look like. And I thought he did exactly that in the game, to come. As much as he’s going to look at it and be upset about it, he knows there’s nothing he can do other than move forward.

"I thought he did that, made some big plays for us, some explosive plays. Had some catch-in-contacts too, where he got hit. For him it’s just slowing it down and catching first, and the rest will take care of itself because he’s such a good athlete, such a good player.”

Coleman Williams ended the day with five receptions on 10 targets, leading the Crimson Tide with 130 receiving yards. Saturday against East Carolina was his fourth 100-yard performance of his career, and his first since week three against Wisconsin last season.

No. 13 Alabama (1-0) will face Kentucky (1-0) on Saturday, September 12, at Kroger Field in Lexington, Kentucky.
