Tuscaloosa's newest city councilman officially took his seat at the table as Richard Henry was sworn in on the seven-member body on Tuesday afternoon.

Councilor-elect Henry comfortably won a special election last week to replace former councilman Norman Crow, who left City Hall after he was elected to a higher office in the Alabama House of Representatives.

Crow was re-elected to the council last March, and Henry will serve out the remainder of his four-year term.

“I am confident that Richard Henry will be a great addition to our City Council,” Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox said in a release. “With his business experience and vision for District 3, I am excited to see all that he accomplishes.”

City Hall said Henry is a lifelong Tuscaloosa resident who graduated from Central High School and Auburn University.

He owns and operates Right Space Commercial Real Estate and is a 20-year veteran of the Tuscaloosa-area real estate industry.

Henry’s community involvement includes serving as President of the Tuscaloosa Association of Realtors, President of the Home Builders Association of Tuscaloosa and as an elder at First Presbyterian Church. He currently serves as President of the Black Warrior Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
