New Downtown Tuscaloosa Boutique, Hemline, Celebrates Opening with Ribbon-Cutting
A new boutique, a New Orleans brand already popular in towns across the southeast, celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday morning.
Hemline is now open at 2111 University Boulevard and offers women's fashion and accessories with an eye for the collegiate crowd studying at or visiting the University of Alabama.
As the Thread has previously reported, the store is owned and operated by Bill Carlson, his wife Staci and their daughter Chatham, who is currently a student at the Capstone and will help run the store.

The brand has locations all over the south, including four others in Alabama, and Chatham Carlson has worked for Hemline in Houston. The family said they are thrilled to bring the store to the Druid City.
“Tuscaloosa has become a second home for our family,” said Bill Carlson. “With Chatham attending the University of Alabama and already being part of the Hemline family, opening a location here feels especially meaningful. We’re excited to become part of this community and serve students, alumni, and residents alike.”
The Friday ribbon-cutting saw the Carlson family joined by guests from the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama and around the Tuscaloosa community for giveaways and freebies, live music and more.
"Hemline Tuscaloosa will offer a thoughtfully curated assortment of apparel and accessories designed for everyday wear, game days, and special occasions—bringing the brand’s signature elevated yet approachable style to a vibrant college-town setting," they said in a press release. "The brand looks forward to welcoming the Tuscaloosa community into the new space and celebrating this exciting milestone."
