Former Alabama QB Named ASWA Pro Athlete of the Year
After winning the Super Bowl in February, former Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts continues to add to his trophy cabinet. Tony Tsoukalas of Tide Illustrated reports that Hurts has been named the ASWA Pro Athlete of the Year.

Hurts' passing totals took a step back in 2024, passing for just 2,903 yards and 18 touchdowns, but his dual-threat ability with 630 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns helped propel the Philadelphia Eagles to the top seed in the NFC in the playoffs, and a victory in Super Bowl LIX.
Hurts avenged the Eagles' loss to the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII, passing for 221 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 72 yards and one touchdown in Philadelphia's 40-22 win over Kansas City. He was named Super Bowl MVP for the Eagles. Hurts' ASWA Pro Athlete of the Year award is the second time in three seasons that Hurts has won the award.
In the playoffs, Hurts passed for 726 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for 194 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. His 72 rushing yards in the Super Bowl are the most by a quarterback in the Super Bowl.
According to Tsoukalas, Hurts is one of 10 former Crimson Tide players to win ASWA Pro Player of the Year alongside Kenny Stabler (1975), Ozzie Newsome (1984), John Hannah (1985), Cornelius Bennett (1988), Shaun Alexander (2001, 2003, 2005), DeMeco Ryans (2006), Julio Jones (2016), Derrick Henry (2019, 2020), and Trevon Diggs (2021).
“It's been a very unprecedented journey,” Hurts said after winning the Super Bowl. “The journey, it's always the beginning until it's the end, and I think it means a lot."
