Alabama ONE Offers Help To BFG Workers As Shutdown Looms
The recently announced closure of the Tuscaloosa B.F. Goodrich plant is bringing the Tuscaloosa and Northport communiies together to get a head start in assisting the some 1,200 employees who face losing their jobs beginning with two year closedown operations starting next year. One organization stepping up to help is the Alabama ONE Credit Union.

Alabama ONE Credit Union CEO Whitney Oswalt expressed sadness regarding the closure of the plant in a press release issued today, “This news is especially significant to us because of where we come from,” Oswalt was quoted as saying. “BFGoodrich employees are not just part of our history—they are part of our present. Many of our members, and even members of our team, are directly affected by this closure. We are committed to supporting them during this difficult time.”
Oswalt noted the credit union's roots to the plant go as far back as 1951 and he pledged support for affected members and employees.
“We want every impacted employee and family to know that they are not alone,” Oswalt stated. “Our mission has always been to improve the financial lives of our members, and in times like this, that mission matters more than ever. We are here to listen and to help our community every step of the way.”
Oswalt is encouraging those impacted, whether current members or not, to visit the credit unions nearest branch or go to alabamaone.org to learn more about available resources.
