Faculty Member at Tuscaloosa County’s Hillcrest High Charged for Inappropriate Contact with Student
A faculty member at Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa County has been arrested over an alleged illegal sexual relationship with a student.
Dr. Daniel Bray, the just-hired superintendent of the Tuscaloosa County School System, announced the arrest in a message to parents Thursday evening.
Bray said Tyler Armistad, a faculty member at Hillcrest High, has been accused of having inappropriate sexual contact with a student.

An investigation is ongoing, and Bray said he could not comment on the details of the alleged behavior, but added that Armistad is not allowed on campus and is on administrative leave.
Other information will come from law enforcement agencies, Bray wrote.
"The Tuscaloosa County School System has high expectations for all faculty and staff," Bray wrote. "We expect our employees to conduct themselves professionally and with honor. TCSS takes all reports of wrongdoing seriously and cooperates with law enforcement to ensure all matters are appropriately resolved. The safety and well-being of students is our first priority."
Jail records confirm Armistad was booked in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on Thursday and charged with one count each of first-degree sexual abuse and illegally having sexual contact with a student.
He remained in custody Thursday night, with a bond yet to be set by a judge.
Bray said school counselors are available to any students who need support, and anyone with a safety concern should use the Speak Up for Safety confidential tip line to report it.
