Once again, for the second time this season, Bailey Hemphill and Lexi Kilfoyl were both named in the weekly SEC honors. Hemphill earned Player of the Week and Kilfoyl was recognized as the Newcomer of the Week.

Alabama’s catcher performed well during her at-bats in last weekend’s series against Texas A&M. Hemphill reached base in 12 of her 13 times at the plate, hit 5-for-6 (.833) and drew a total of five walks during the series for a .923 on base percentage.

A trend with Hemphill this season has been patience at the plate. Her patience was finally rewarded when she drew her second walk in Thursday’s game. This walk marked the 200th of her career. She passed Haylie McCleney’s (2013-16) record of 199 walks to become Alabama’s new career leader in the category.

Alabama has won this award three times this season with Kaylee Tow winning it on Feb. 22 and Hemphill winning it on March 16 and this week. The Crimson Tide softball program has earned a total of 50 Player of the Week honors.

Alabama’s pitcher showed her strength in the circle and at the plate against the Aggies. As the starting pitcher in game one, she pitched a complete-game win and followed that with a save in game two. She also was the starting pitcher in game three.

Kilfoyl is one of the few Crimson Tide pitchers who shows her skills in the box. This past weekend she hit 4-for-7 and liked her counterpart, Hemphill, drew a total of five walks for a .750 on base percentage.

She hit the game-ending RBI single in game one of the series to run-rule the Aggies and was the difference in Friday’s 8-6 victory with her two-run single.

Kilfoyl had previously won the league’s inaugural award on March 16. The SEC created the award for spring sports this season to recognize the student-athletes that were freshman in 2020 and who’s seasons were impacted by the pandemic. Kilfoyl is the first player to win this award twice.
