59-year-old Harvell Johnson has been arrested in Hale County for "Certain Persons Forbidden". The Gallion resident has been booked in the Hale County Jail on a $15,000 bond.

"Certain Persons Forbidden" refers to Alabama state law, which makes it a Class C felony for individuals with prior violent crime convictions, domestic violence convictions, or active protection orders to possess firearms. While the charge is typically state law, violators often also violate federal law prohibiting firearm possession by restricted individuals.

Under federal law, individuals prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition include convicted felons, those convicted of domestic violence misdemeanors, unlawful users of controlled substances, individuals with certain mental health commitments, illegal aliens, dishonorably discharged veterans, fugitives, and persons subject to certain restraining orders.

The arrest took place last Wednesday but was just made public. It involved coordination between multiple law enforcement agencies, including Greensboro PD, Demopolis PD, Hale County Sheriff's Office and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

A statement from the Hale County Sheriff's Office indicated the arrest took place after officers executed a search warrant on Johnson in the 5000 block of Highway 69 in Gallion. Gallion is an unincorporated area some 10 miles east of Demopolis in marengo County.

Johnson's case is being reviewed by ATF and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Alabama.

At the time of executing the search warrant, the Hale County Sheriff's Office says an indoor marijuana grow tent was located inside Johnson's home. That discovery is currently under investigation.
