
Dencil Ray Johnson (July 22nd, 1947 – December 5th, 2025)
Dencil Ray Johnson, 78 of Cottondale, passed away December 5, 2025 at home.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Oakwood Cemetery in Greensboro, Alabama, with Rev. Steve Vernon officiating and Magnolia Chapel South directing.
He is preceded in death by his parents, LC and Alberta Johnson, brothers, Johnny "Max" Johnson, Charles Johnson, sister, Mary J. Stokes, sister-In-law, Cathy Johnson, brother-in-law, Hayood F Stokes.
He is survived by his sister; Linda Wyatt (Gary), nieces: Dena Tucker (Ricky); Sharon Stokes; Kim Polifka (Joby); Lisa Nolen (Bruce); Leslie Wiggins, nephews: Mike Johnson (Belinda); Shane Johnson; Woody Stokes; Jody Wyatt (Tammy); Lance Johnson and a host of Great Nieces & Nephews and Great-Great Nieces & Nephews.
Dencil was born on July 22, 1947, to LC and Alberta Johnson and was raised in Greensboro, Alabama, where he grew up helping his family tend to their farm. He attended Greensboro High School and proudly played football for the Greensboro Warriors, graduating in 1967. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country with honor from 1968-1971, including a tour in Vietnam. His service to country and commitment to his fellow servicemen remained a lifelong source of pride.
In the years that followed, Dencil enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He was happiest when he had a golf club in his hand, spending time with friends and family or cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide. Whether the Tide won or lost, he never missed a game – his loyalty unwavering.
Pallbearers will be Mike Johnson, Shane Johnson, Woody Stokes, Jody Wyatt, Bruce Nolen, Ricky Tucker.

Dencil will be remembered for his loyalty, his humor, his love of family, and his unwavering spirit. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
