Weatherization Grants to Help Low Income West Alabama Residents
Community Service Programs of West Alabama will receive $306,944.00 of a near $4-million allocation from Gov. Ivey to assist low-income residents reduce home energy bills. CSP of West Alabama services Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Pickens, Lamar, Sumter and Tuscaloosa counties.
The funds, distributed through the Alabama Weatherization Assistance Program, are aimed at enhancing the energy efficiency and safety of homes selected for assistance. Thirteen grants have been awarded to community action agencies across the state.

Alabama ranks among the states with the highest utility bills which places considerable stress on low-income residents due to poorly insulated homes. Nearly 70% of Alabamians use electric heat, leading to high usage, driving up bills year-around.
The weatherization assistance program in Alabama is administered by the Alabama Department of Economic Development and Community Affairs (ADECA). "Weatherization upgrades can make a significant difference in making a home comfortable and in preserving energy," ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said. "ADECA is pleased to join Gov. Ivey in supporting these grants, which will help many Alabama families reap the benefits of lower energy bills."
By reducing energy bills, weatherization allows low-income residents to free-up limited funds for such necessities as food and healthcare.
Eligibility for the program requires Income below 200% of the federal poverty level; with a priority for elderly, disabled, and families with children.
Weatherization includes air sealing, attic/duct/floor insulation, heater repairs, and energy audits.
