The Chief Medical Officer and Chief Nursing Officer addressed caregivers employed within the DCH Healthcare System following the tragic murder of one of their own on Tuesday.

Ada Chapman Doss, a 27-year-old nurse, was shot and killed in a robbery attempt in the south parking lot of Regional Medical Center following an afternoon shift change.

Chief Medical Officer John Miller and Chief Nursing Officer Dawn Alexander expressed their sorrow and frustration in a video shared to social media on Wednesday.

"Yesterday, we experienced an unimaginable loss here at the DCH family, one of our own, Ada Doss, who is more than just an employee. She was a mom, a wife, a colleague, a friend, and no one should have to experience that in their lifetime. And we are reeling and grieving and heartbroken about this loss," Alexander said.

Miller addressed the anxiety caregivers feel in the wake of Tuesday's murder.

"We're friends and neighbors taking care of friends and neighbors. Our job is and will remain to take the very best care of our community. We feel your frustrations. We feel your anxiety," he said.

Alexander noted that the safety of its employees is the Healthcare System's priority.

"We want you to share with us if there are any other suggestions or recommendations of things we can do to make this process smoother, more transparent. We welcome your feedback, and we want to make sure that you know our number one priority is to make sure that you feel safe at DCH," she said.
