Mayor Responds To DCH Shooting And Advises Public On Mental Illness
Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox told 953 The Bear’s Steve & DC that statewide cuts in funding have a dangerous impact on the community and those with mental health issues.

The mayor’s comments were part of his reaction to the death of 27-year-old DCH nurse Ada Doss. The nurse was killed in an attempted robbery in the employee parking lot by a man with mental health issues.
The mayor expressed sadness and compassion for Ada’s young children, husband, and colleagues at DCH.
Mayor Maddox spoke directly to the local community, saying if you see a troubled person with mental health issues, don’t hesitate to call 9-1-1.
Maddox acknowledged confidence that the DCH CEO, Katrina Keefer, was working to improve safety at DCH and address community concerns.
