A community prayer service is planned this weekend to honor the life of a young nurse tragically murdered in the parking lot of DCH Regional Medical Center.

27-year-old Ada Champman Doss, a nurse, mother, and wife, was killed in a robbery attempt on Tuesday. Doss was walking to her car following a shift change at Regional Medical Center when she was shot by 41-year-old Matthew Taylor, who has since been charged with Capital Murder.

As West Alabama reels from the news of this tragedy, the community is coming together to show its support.

"I see all the Facebook posts, shares, and comments, and I believe it’s important that we come together in prayer as a community," said event organizer Whitney Neal. "We have to stand together and stand for what’s right."

Pastor Matthew Wilson will lead attendees in prayer during a brief gathering at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, at Snow Hinton Park.

"This will be a community prayer gathering to support her family and friends and to let them know that Tuscaloosa cares and is thinking of them during this time of grief. She was a loving mother, daughter, friend, and coworker whose life touched many," Neal said.

DCH Health System issued a statement on Wednesday expressing its grief and promising increased security measures for patients and providers.
