
West Alabama Congressional Leaders Bringing Home The Dollars
According to figures from the Internal Revenue Service Alabamian's per-capita annual revenue collected by the federal government is $7,301, one of the lowest totals in the nation. Per capita obligations made to the state by the federal government average $15,971, one of the highest in the country. Much of the returned federal dollars is in the form of appropriations obtained by members of the state's congressional delegation.

Rep. Sewell Delivers for West Alabama's 7th Congressional District
West Alabama Democrat Congresswoman Terri Sewell is one of the most effective in securing federal dollars for her 7th district constituents. In a press release, Rep. Sewell has announced her office has delivered at least $3.2 million worth of investments in the Black Belt as a part of the annual appropriations process.
Sewell says four projects will expand access to health care, support district first responders, increase public safety, and improve infrastructure.
The four projects are:
- Perry County: - $500,000 to transform the Marion National Guard Armory into a multi-purpose community center,
- Perry County - $1,015,000 to upgrade equipment, labs, X-ray capabilities, and IT systems at the Uniontown Health Center,
- Pickens County - $1,000,000 to construct a joint police and volunteer fire station in Aliceville in Pickens County, and
- Sumter County - $750,000 for a new community center
Sewell wrote in her press release that, "Each year, my office works to secure funding for local projects that will make a tangible difference in the lives of our constituents," Rep. Sewell stated. "I am thrilled that this year, we are delivering at least $3.2 million worth of investments in the Black Belt. These four projects will expand access to health care, support our first responders, increase public safety, and improve our infrastructure. I will continue advocating for additional projects in our district as Congress finalizes the remaining nine spending bills for FY26."
Rep. Robert Aderholt Announces Significant Appropriations for the 4th District
Republican Congressman Aderholt secured funding for several key community projects across Alabama’s Fourth Congressional District through the full-year Agriculture appropriations measure. Aderholt's announcement touts' investments strengthen rural healthcare, workforce training, and community infrastructure:
- Fayette County – $5,551,812 to construct a new 16,500-square-foot Rural Health Clinic serving Fayette County residents, and
- Walker County – $1,100,000 to purchase Career and Technical Education Center equipment for welding, automotive, diesel labs, construction, engineering, and related areas in Jasper.
“By improving healthcare access and expanding job training opportunities, we’re ensuring that our rural communities continue to thrive.” Aderholt was quoted as saying.
