Aliceville Shooter Who Killed 1, Hurt 3 Gets Life Without Parole
A man who was convicted of killing one and injuring three others when he shot up an Aliceville home in 2021 will spend the rest of his life in prison after a judge handed down his sentence this week.
As the Thread reported, 31-year-old Jeremy Lynn Colvin was convicted in February of the murder of 21-year-old Venson Lamont Barnes, one of the four people Colvin allegedly shot at a home on Seventh Street Northeast in Aliceville in May 2021.
All three survivors identified Colvin as the shooter, District Attorney Andy Hamlin said.

On Wednesday, Judge Sam Junkin sentenced Colvin to serve life in prison with no possibility of parole for the murder conviction. He also received life sentences for the three attempted murder convictions the case produced.
“The sentences handed down today ensure that Jeremy Colvin will spend the rest of his life in prison, unable to harm anyone else,” Hamlin said in a press release. “While no punishment can bring back Venson Barnes or undo the harm caused to the survivors, this sentence holds the defendant fully accountable for his senseless and violent actions. I hope it brings some measure of healing to the victims and their families, who have shown incredible strength throughout the investigation and trial.”
Hamlin credited the Pickens County Sheriff's Office, the Aliceville Police Department, the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, and the Forensic Services Division of our own Tuscaloosa Police Department for conducting the investigation that led to the conviction and sentencing.
