ALDOT to Tension Cables, Install Lighting on Interstate 20/59 Arch Bridge in Tuscaloosa, Alabama
The Alabama Department of Transportation has planned lane closures on McFarland Boulevard in Tuscaloosa as crews put the finishing touches on the new crimson arch bridge at Exit 73 of Interstate 20/59.
"The McFarland Boulevard (US-82) eastbound inside and center lanes, directly under the interstate, will close Tuesday, May 18 and Wednesday, May 19 from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. The I 20/59 eastbound and westbound inside lanes across the bridge will also close during the same time frame," said John McWilliams, Public Information Officer for ADOT's West Central Region.
"Beginning Friday, May 21 at 11 p.m. until Monday, May 24 at 5 a.m., McFarland Boulevard, directly under the interstate, will close in both directions for the contractor to complete the tensioning and allow for lighting installation," McWilliams said.
"[We] will also use nightly intermittent rolling roadblocks on the interstate during that weekend. Rolling roadblocks, which will be executed by law enforcement, allow the contractor to safely perform short-term activities in the roadway while traffic is slowed for a period of time," McWilliams said.
Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area while contractors are on site.
ALDOT anticipates it will finish the bridge project by late summer.
