ALDOT Begins Replacing 2 Bridges on Highway 82, Work Expected to End in 2027
The Alabama Department of Transportation began a multi-year $10 million project to replace two bridges on Highway 82 in eastern Tuscaloosa County with one larger bridge on Monday.
ALDOT said they have hired Tuscaloosa's own Ikaros, LLC, to replace the bridges over Big Creek near Sam Sutton Road in Coker.

Their $9.9 million contract began Monday morning, and ALDOT said the project will continue until some time in early 2027, as long as weather allows for consistent work.
ALDOT said the project will also permanently close the highway's current intersection with Sam Sutton Road to accommodate the new bridge.
"At least one lane on US-82 will remain open in each direction throughout the project," ALDOT spokesperson John McWilliams said in a press release. "Motorists should expect possible delays and are encouraged to observe work-zone speed limits. For real-time traffic updates and more, download the ALGOTraffic app or visit ALGOTraffic.com."
