Alabama Softball Secures Final SEC Series Win Over Ole Miss

The Alabama Crimson Tide (41-7) and the Ole Miss Rebels (34-18) battled it out inning after inning until Alabama pulled ahead in the bottom of the fourth after a six-run inning. With an 11-7 win, Alabama wins the series and has a chance to get back-to-back sweeps against SEC opponents in today's game three.

Similar to Thursday night's game, every player in the lineup recorded a hit and Alabama’s offense fed off of one another to score multiple runs per inning.

“I think it is contagious,” said head coach Patrick Murphy. “Good hitting is contagious, so is bad hitting and right now I think it’s the good hitting that they’re passing down the line.”

In the fourth inning, Alabama’s offense really exploded. Five singles, a double and a walk gave the Crimson Tide a six-run inning to secure its series win.

Maddie Morgan started the inning with a walk and was the second-to-last batter of the inning.

This is the second time this series that Alabama has batted through the lineup. A significant part of the game is the batting lineup. Murphy has changed his lineups multiple times this season to get it where he wants it.

In game one of this series he seemed to have found a lineup that worked and he stuck with it for game two.

“I think we kind of settled on a lineup. So that’s a good thing” said Murphy.

Again tonight, small ball was the name of the game. The Crimson Tide hit 14 singles out of 16 hits.

“Hitting is contagious and we’ve made in season adjustments,” said designated pitcher Jenna Johnson. “We’ve been working really hard throughout the weeks in practice to make adjustments on that and we’re getting out there and we’re getting after it.”

Krystal Goodman started in the circle for the Crimson Tide and pitched six full innings. She kept Ole Miss at bay to give her teammates chances on offense.

“She held it down and we scored. So kudos to her,” said Murphy. “She’s been great the last month.”

Goodman picked up her eighth win of the season and is now 8-1. She allowed three walks, eight hits and struck out three batters.

After the sixth inning Montana Fouts came in to close her fourth game of the season. She allowed just one hit and gave up one walk and threw 12 pitches.

Alabama will face Ole Miss in game three of the series and the final SEC game before the tournament. They will have a chance at a series sweep at 11 a.m. CT. May, 8. Tune in to Praise 93.3 to listen to the game or watch it on the SEC Network.
