One person was killed Thursday night in a shooting at Tuscaloosa's McKenzie Court housing complex, according to police.

Captain Marty Sellers, the co-commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, alerted local media just before 12 a.m. Friday that the multi-agency team of investigators is responding to a fatal shooting at McKenzie Court.

Sellers did not immediately release any other details.

The VCU is made up of detectives from TPD, the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office, the Northport Police Department and the University of Alabama Police Department. They investigate all unnatural deaths, homicides and most sex crimes in Tuscaloosa County.

By the count of the Tuscaloosa Thread, this marks the seventh homicide in Tuscaloosa County so far in 2022 and the third this week alone after a drive-by shooting Sunday night left a man and an infant dead.
