VCU: All 7 Victims Shot Saturday After Reunion in West Tuscaloosa Stable, No Arrests Yet
All seven victims, some of whom were juveniles, that were shot in the aftermath of a reunion event in West Tuscaloosa late last night were in stable condition Sunday morning, local police report.
Captain Marty Sellers, the co-commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said Tuscaloosa Police and the VCU rushed to the 2600 block of 22nd Street on reports of a mass shooting there.
Sellers said there was a large crowd in the area who'd been attending an outdoor block party which was allowed by the city to go until 10 p.m. - a reunion of friends, family and residents of the West Tuscaloosa area called Shacktown.
TPD officers reportedly provided medical aid to those who were hurt until Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue EMTs and NorthStar ambulances arrived.
The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and University of Alabama Police Department assisted TPD with securing the scene and managing the large crowd in the area and at DCH Regional Medical Center.
"Seven people were injured in the shooting, including juveniles. Three initially suffered serious injuries," Sellers said. "As of Sunday morning, all of the victims were reported to be in stable condition."
Sellers said the VCU is actively working this investigation and have spoken to multiple witnesses who were at the scene and saw the shooting.
No arrests have been made at this time.
"Anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information, photos or video from the area is asked to contact the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit at 205-464-8690, Crime Stoppers at 205-752-STOP (7867) or submit an anonymous tip through the TPD mobile app," Sellers said.
The shooting is the largest mass casualty crime in Tuscaloosa since a shooting at a downtown bar injured 18 people in 2012.
