A Tuscaloosa County leader dedicated to finding funding for critical area nonprofits has been selected to help steer a state organization with the same mission.

On Tuesday, the Alabama Association of Nonprofits announced that Jackie Wuska Wear will serve as the chair of their 35-member board of directors as of July 1st. In that role, she will partner with executive director Danielle Dunbar to assist the state's more than 5,700 active nonprofit organizations.

Locally, Wuska serves as the executive director of the United Way of West Alabama, whose goal is to raise money to be allocated to 30 partner agencies such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, the American Red Cross, the YMCA of Tuscaloosa County and dozens more.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jackie as Chair and grateful for her years of experience leading nonprofit organizations," Dunbar said. "Jackie will be a thoughtful, energetic, and savvy leader of our board and she will keep the Association focused on our newly refined strategic plan.”

Wuska said she was grateful for the appointment and proud to work on behalf of such important organizations.

“Nonprofits do not have a product or a widget that every time we sell, we make a profit. Yet, the State of Alabama’s nonprofits work tirelessly to provide services and programs that address our community’s most critical needs," Wuska said. "The Alabama Association of Nonprofits has the important mission of helping nonprofit organizations be more effective and efficient so that we are good stewards of every gift and donation we receive in order to offer a better quality of life to every citizen of Alabama.”
