A McCalla man has been charged with murder and DUI for a deadly collision earlier this year in Bibb County.

As the Thread reported at the time of the traffic fatality,  60-year-old Gerald W. McRee was driving on Alabama Highway 5 near Woodstock one late May morning when his truck was hit by a Toyota Tacoma being driven by 24-year-old William Brooks Foster.

McRee, a grandfather from West Blocton, was pronounced dead at the scene. Foster was injured in the wreck and hospitalized rather than arrested, but police gathered evidence at the time and presented it to a grand jury earlier this month.

Court documents and police reports obtained by the Thread allege Foster was driving on the wrong side of the road and drunk at the time of the accident.

Police say he forced one car off the road immediately before colliding with McRee's truck. Foster's blood alcohol content was also reportedly 0.157, around twice the legal limit.

Records also show Foster was arrested with a similarly high BAC and charged with a DUI in April 2020.

The grand jury indicted Foster for the deadly May collision and charged him with reckless murder and DUI - he turned himself in for arrest earlier this week and has since been released on bond with conditions.
