The heavily armed Tuscaloosa Police Department Special Response Team was briefly deployed to West Tuscaloosa on Thursday morning to assist federal agents seeking to arrest a fugitive who eventually surrendered.

Stephanie Taylor, a spokesperson for the Tuscaloosa Police Department, told the Thread that the U.S. Marshals Task Force responded to a residence on 24th Street in West Tuscaloosa seeking to arrest someone with an active warrant.

They arrived around 9:15 a.m., and the suspect reportedly barricaded himself inside the residence, drawing a large police presence, including the SWAT team.

Traffic to the area was blocked, and nearby residents were notified of the situation, but ultimately, the suspect surrendered to police without violence at about 10:20 a.m.

More information, including the suspect's identity, may follow, but it was not available at about 10:45 a.m. Thursday.
