Lanier, who defeated incumbent Sonya McKinstry in March's Municipal Elections and then again in a special runoff in July, was sworn in as part of the City of Tuscaloosa's City Council meeting Tuesday night.

"I'm overwhelmed. I put forth a lot of hard work, and overcame a lot of adversity," Lanier told The Thread after winning July's runoff election. "I'm excited to work with the Council. I've been working in the city for so long, but with a seat at the table, I look forward to giving back to our district in so many ways."
