A sting in Tuscaloosa this weekend led to the arrest of six men and a juvenile who are accused of soliciting prostitution, according to court documents and police sources.

The operation was conducted by the West Alabama Human Trafficking Task Force, who set up agents at a hotel in Tuscaloosa and met with men responding to a commercial sex ad.

WAHTTF runs a few of these stings a year, which target the solicitors of sex for sale in the region instead of women who offer it, who can often be victims of sex trafficking.

The weekend sting led to the arrest of six adults and one juvenile, all accused of soliciting prostitution, which is a Class A misdemeanor.

Those arrested whose cases had been filed on Tuesday were:

  • Aaron Carthage, 48, of Northport
  • Jeffrey Jamall Gordon, 29, of Columbus, MS
  • Benjamin Kannard, 47, of Eutaw
  • Amar Walden, 33, of Tuscaloosa
  • Davian Williams, 24, of Northport
  • James Renico Rashod Wilson, 28, of Tuscaloosa

A TPD spokesperson also said one juvenile suspect was arrested in the sting, and Alabama law prohibits police from releasing details about suspects that young.

It is the general policy of the Thread not to publish the mugshots of those who are only accused of misdemeanor charges.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this report said there were seven adults arrested in the sting - TPD said Wednesday that there were seven arrests total - six adults and one juvenile.
