Tuscaloosa County School Awarded For Record Academic Growth
Just as they're gearing up for another year of classes, a Tuscaloosa County school recently received some outstanding news.
A spokesperson for the school system said just seven Alabama schools received an A+ College Ready "School of Excellence" award for the 2021-2022 school year, and one middle school in the Tuscaloosa County School System made the list.
Each of the schools participates in the Middle School Training and Incentive Program and received the "School of Excellence" award for record growth while in the program.
According to A+ Education Partnership, the middle school program includes teacher training, administrator training and support, teacher empowerment through equipment/materials/supplies, and teacher, leader, and student incentives based upon student achievement and growth as measured by the PSAT along with the Alabama Comprehensive Assessment Program (ACAP).
Brookwood Middle School was one of the 7 middle schools that received the A+ College Ready "School of Excellence" award. The school saw a 66-point growth in 2021-2022.
The Tuscaloosa County School System posted a congratulatory message on their Facebook page saying, "This award is a result of the growth of the 8th-grade class's scores on the PSAT 8/9 exam, administered in the Spring."
The post went on to state what the requirements were to receive the award. Brookwood ended up improving well over the required goal.
"To earn this distinction, a school must improve its PSAT score by 50 points, over one year of participation in the A+ College Ready Middle School Training and Incentive Program. Brookwood Middle’s 8th-grade class exceeded that requirement, improving its overall score by 66 points, well over the required 50 points!"
Congratulations to Brookwood Middle School.
