Sales Underway at Tuscaloosa Furniture Store Closing Amid Parent Company Bankruptcy
Deep discounts are on offer at a Tuscaloosa furniture store which is set to go out of business amid its parent company's bankruptcy.
As the Thread first reported, brothers Will and Rod Morgan built and opened a Badcock Home Furniture & More in 2021 at 140 Skyland Drive behind the Los Tarascos Mexican restaurant.
The store has performed well, but last December, another retailer called Conn's Inc. purchased the 120-year-old Badcock brand and their more than 350 stores.

Conn's has struggled mightily since then and has seen share prices plummet more than 90 percent since the beginning of 2024.
They filed for bankruptcy last week and announced plans to close more than 70 Conn's locations across the country. The cuts didn't stop there, though, and CNN reports 35 Badcock stores will also permanently shut their doors because of the bankruptcy, and that will include the Tuscaloosa location.
Clearance is now underway at the Tuscaloosa Badcock Home Furniture & More, where name-brand furniture and appliances are listed Wednesday at 30-50 percent off original prices.
Samantha Woodward, the store manager at the Tuscaloosa location, said everything must go and even pieces that are not normally marked down - coffee tables, nightstands, box springs sets - are on clearance.
Woodward welcomed folks to come to the store and see what they can save on furniture or appliances they may be shopping for, but asked browsers to be patient and kind to store staff, who have no say over the rate of discount, no ability to change prices or policies around the closing sale, and who are all facing the loss of a job on which they depend.
