A Tuscaloosa Police Officer witnessed but was not party to a gun being fired at a local housing complex Monday night, and a suspect was arrested without any injuries.

Incorrect rumors circulated on social media alleging that police had shot a person at Rosedale Apartments on 10th Avenue, but the only officer-involved shooting in Tuscaloosa Monday night was in the Alberta area and TPD was reportedly targeted without returning fire.

Stephanie Taylor, a spokesperson for TPD, detailed what actually happened at Rosedale Court Monday in a statement to the press Tuesday morning.

"A TPD officer was at Rosedale Court at 9:15 p.m. Monday when he observed a man and woman arguing across the courtyard. During the argument, the man fired a pistol into the air, directly over the woman’s head," Taylor said. "The officer was able to take the man, 62, into custody and charged him with discharging a firearm in city limits, open beverage, third-degree reckless endangerment and third-degree domestic violence/harassment. The woman was not harmed."

All four charges are misdemeanors and police did not identify the suspect by name in their statement on Tuesday.
