Texas Man Accused of Driving to Fayette County for Sex With Teen
A 27-year-old Texas man has been charged with nine sex crimes, burglary and trespassing after he allegedly drove move than 600 miles to Fayette County to have sex with a 15-year-old.
The suspect, Deairo Deshawn Bryant, was arrested Monday after a special sex crime investigator found cause to charge him with second-degree rape, second-degree sodomy and more.
According to court documents filed Tuesday, Bryant traded explicit pictures with the 15-year-old victim and on Sunday, August 2nd, decided to drive almost 10 hours to meet her in Fayette County.
Bryant met the girl at a home in Fayette and allegedly had sex with her there.
A day after Bryant arrived in Alabama, a special investigator hired in January to solve crimes involving sexual abuse and assault in Fayette, Pickens and Lamar Counties was alerted to the situation and was able to find cause to arrest him.
Bryant is charged with second-degree rape, three counts of second-degree sodomy, electronic solicitation of a child, traveling to meet a child for an unlawful sex act, transmitting obscene material to a child by computer, enticing a child for immoral purpose and dissemination or public display of obscene matter containing visual depiction of persons under 17 years of age involved in obscene acts. All nine are felony charges.
Bryant is also charged with second-degree criminal trespassing and second-degree burglary.
District Attorney Andy Hamlin said Wednesday he is petitioning Fayette Count District Judge to set Bryant's bond at $1 million out of concern he may flee back to Texas if he is released from jail.
