West Alabama Democrat Congresswoman Terri Sewell made a stop in West End today to show her support and concern for some 1,200 employees of B.F. Goodrich who recently found out that Michelin is closing the plant in 2028.

" I spoke with USW Local 351 President Jim Knox about the announced closure of the BFGoodrich plant and what we can do to support the impacted workers. It’s important that all of these workers know they are not alone," Sewell stated. "To every worker and family facing this uncertainty: Know that I see you, I hear you, and I’ll keep fighting alongside you. You are not alone."

Sewell's meeting with the workers at their union hall focused on connecting employees with resources as they prepare for the next chapter.

Tuscaloosa organizations are mobilizing an extensive effort to support the employees and their families and their needs as the plant conducts closeout operations over the next couple of years.

The union has requested negotiations with the company for a strong severance package.

Michelin is combining their Tuscaloosa operations in West End with a larger B.F. Goodrich Plant in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

Sewell also brought her "Congress in Your Community Tour." to town. The meeting centered on discussions about affordability and representation that was attended by Tuscaloosa Democrat State Rep. Chris England and Tuscaloosa City Council's Joe Eatmon.
