Suspect in Custody After Deadly Tuscaloosa County Shooting

A suspect is in custody after a fatal shooting in a rural area of northeast Tuscaloosa County early Sunday morning, according to investigators.

Jack Kennedy, the commander of the multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said sheriff's deputies were called to a home on Poplar Springs Road in unincorporated area north of Brookwood and east of Samantha after someone was shot there around 4 a.m. Sunday.

Kennedy said the victim was deceased and a murder investigation was begun.

The VCU did not immediately release details about the circumstances of the killing or about the victim's identity, but did say one suspect is in police custody and more details will be released later Sunday or sometime Monday.
