Special Weather Statement Issued for Tuscaloosa As Rainy Week Begins
The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Special Weather Statement for Tuscaloosa warning of a Tuesday afternoon storm as a week of rain-filled afternoons gets underway.
With many areas having already experienced a downpour or two Tuesday afternoon, the NWS said a strong thunderstorm is on the way and will bring more rain, high winds and some hail to the Tuscaloosa area.
The Special Weather Statement reads,
"At 2:21 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Samantha, or 11 miles north of Northport, moving east at 15 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible.
Locations impacted include... Binion Creek Landing, Tierce Pattton Bridge, Highway 69 Bridge, Lake Nicol, Lake Tuscaloosa, and Lake Nicol Park.
