Second Man Charged With Capital Murder After Fatal August Robbery
Investigators with the multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit have charged a second man with capital murder after a robbery at a local apartment complex turned deadly last month.
According to police, two men broke into the home of Justin Lanier Douglas, 35, at Sun Valley Apartments on 36th Avenue East on August 29th and attempted to rob him at gunpoint.
During the course of the robbery, something went wrong and Douglas was shot. He was rushed to DCH Regional Medical Center but died there shortly after the shooting.
Police were able to quickly arrest one suspect, 25-year-old Devonte Montel Hinton, and charge him with capital murder, but detectives have been searching for the second man involved in the robbery since it took place more than a month ago.
Agents with the US Marshalls Task Force caught up with the second man they believe was involved in the killing, 20-year-old Caleb Harris, Thursday and took him into custody. He was booked in the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where is being held on charges of capital murder during the commission of a robbery.
Capital murder suspects are held without bond, and if found guilty are either sentenced to death or life in prison without the possibility of parole.
