Rumors of a shooting at Tuscaloosa's DCH Regional Medical Center that spread on social media Monday night are false, investigators confirmed Tuesday morning.

Captain Jack Kennedy, the commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said that the rumors were caused by "temporary confusion as so many shooting victims (were) arriving at the hospital at the same time."

As previously reported by the Tuscaloosa Thread, the shooting Kennedy referred to occurred Monday night at Hay Court Apartments where multiple people were injured. It was later determined that five people were shot during the incident, including one who was critically injured.

After the VCU spent the night collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses, Kennedy said police belive that at 9:30 p.m., a suspect opened fire on a crowd in a common area in the complex, not inside of a residence, during an altercation.

Five people were injured in the mayhem, but Kennedy said Tuesday morning that all of the victims are expected to recover from their injuries.

The investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to contact the Violent Crimes Unit at 205-464-8690.
