A Tuscaloosa man died after he was struck by a driver while walking on a local street on Friday afternoon.

Stephanie Taylor, a spokeswoman for the Tuscaloosa Police Department, said the victim was walking in the 5400 block of Old Montgomery Highway when he was struck by a Ford F350 traveling south.

The pedestrian, a 29-year-old man, was fatally injured and pronounced dead at about 12:45 p.m., roughly 45 minutes after the accident.

Taylor said the driver of the Ford stayed on the scene of the accident and spoke with members of TPD's TPD’s Traffic Homicide Unit, who are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The unit investigates all fatal accidents in city limits, and their involvement does not necessarily indicate the suspicion of a crime.

TPD did not immediately release the identity of the pedestrian who died Friday.
