King said Shelia A. Powell of Sandy Springs, Georgia, was a passenger in a 2022 Hyundai Venue when its driver, an Atlanta man, left the roadway and struck a cable barrier.

The SUV then overturned and was struck by a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pickup truck driven by a 22-year-old man from Pelham.

King said Powell was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the Hyundai. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Both drivers were also injured in the accident and transported to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa for treatment, King said.
