Northport Man Charged With Rape for Alleged Tuesday Assault
Police in Tuscaloosa County have arrested a Northport man and charged him with first-degree rape and other crimes after he allegedly assaulted a woman at a local residence on Tuesday.
According to court documents filed Thursday and obtained by the Thread, the suspect is 29-year-old Hunter Garrett Shirley, a Northport man.

Police say Shirley was at a Northport residence with a woman and became angry with her.
Investigators accuse Shirley of attacking the victim, punching her and forcing her to drink water laced with GHB, blocking the exit to the room they were in and demanding sex from her. The deposition claims when she refused, he forcibly raped her.
The case was investigated by the multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, which handles most sex crimes and assaults committed in the county.
Investigators arrested Shirley on Wednesday and charged him with first-degree rape, two counts of first-degree sodomy, second-degree domestic violence assault and felony domestic violence strangulation.
The Northport man was booked in the Tuscaloosa County Jail and remained there Thursday afternoon, where he is being held without bond until a judge sets one.
