The first reports of damage are coming in from western Tuscaloosa County after a tornado passed through the region Saturday afternoon.

The NWS issued a "downstream" tornado warning for Tuscaloosa County around 3:20 p.m., extending a series of warnings tied to a long-track cell that originated in Mississippi and passed through Sumter, Pickens and Greene County.

At around 3:40 p.m., the NWS reclassified the tornado warning as radar-confirmed in Tuscaloosa County after a tornado debris signature became apparent around Elrod.

A trained storm spotter has since reported damage in that area.

"Numerous trees snapped. A few trees uprooted. At least one house with roof damage," their report said. "Spotter saw the tornado cross US-82 near Minas Road."

The Tuscaloosa County EMA shared a photo of storm damage on Tierce Patton Road.

There has also been extensive damage at the Pier 43 boat dock and gas station on Highway 43 near Lake Tuscaloosa.

The town of Gordo has reportedly suffered extensive tornado damage from a different storm system later Saturday afternoon.
