LEAVE THE AREA NOW: Police Once Again Shut Down Rowdy Tuscaloosa Strip After A-Day
Police in Tuscaloosa have once again shut down the University Strip after crowds got too rowdy after the A-Day festivities on campus a few blocks away.
The measure, announced shortly after 9 p.m., mirrors a similar step taken after A-Day in 2023.

Anyone who is in the Strip - the area of bars and restaurants along University Boulevard just west of campus and Bryant-Denny Stadium - should leave the area.
A TPD spokesperson said the decision came after a group of people believed they heard gunshots - although no evidence was found that shots were fired.
"Just before 9 p.m., a group of people gathered on The Strip believed they heard gunshots and began running. Several officers were already stationed in the area and responded immediately," said Stephanie Taylor, a spokesperson for TPD. "After a thorough check, officers found no evidence that any shots had been fired and confirmed that no one had been injured. The University of Alabama’s SpotShotter system, which detects gunfire in the area, did not register any gunfire during that time. Out of an abundance of caution, Chief Blankley declared The Strip closed at 9:00 p.m. Anyone not inside a business or actively leaving the area is required to clear the Strip. There have been no other major issues reported today, and the atmosphere has otherwise remained safe and orderly."
