Serious Injuries Reported After Car Crashes Through Mexican Restaurant in Tuscaloosa
Multiple people were injured, some seriously, when a vehicle carshed through the wall of a Mexican restaurant in Tuscaloosa Sunday afternoon.
Stephanie Taylor, a spokesperson for the Tuscaloosa Police Department, said officers were called to La Gran Fiesta on Highway 69 South around 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
They found a Jeep had crashed into the building and "several people were injured, some with serious injuries."
Taylor said the driver of the Jeep attempted to flee the scene but was captured quickly by Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's deputies.
TPD, TCSO and Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue are still on scene and more updates are expected later Sunday evening.
UPDATE 7 P.M.: The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit has said police believe the Jeep was rammed into the building intentionally and its driver will almost certainly face criminal charges. The VCU also said the injuries sustained in the chaos appear to be "very minor."
