The Kentuck Art Center's new facility in Tuscaloosa is ready to host their first event there after months of renovations and will honor a legendary local quilter on the occasion of her 100th birthday.

As the Thread first reported, Kentuck is expanding south of the Black Warrior River. The arts organization will keep open and continue to operate their headquarters and store in downtown Northport, but this year also announced plans to replace the Mildred Westervelt Warner Transportation Museum in the historic site of the Queen City Pool House.

Six months after breaking that news and just a week after the first Kentuck Festival of the Arts at Snow Hinton Park in Tuscaloosa, the organization will host their first indoor event inside the renovated Pool House.

The Art Center just announced that next Friday, on November 1st, they will celebrate the 100th birthday of Hallie O'Kelley, a local artisan who has designed a quilt for every Festival since 1983.

The big celebration is planned for next Friday at 5:30 p.m. and will feature birthday cake, a talk from O'Kelley, live music and demonstrations from the West Alabama Quilters Guild.
