More Cities In Alabama Remove Flouride From Water
An effort to remove fluoridation from the water supply in Alabama continues this week.

The city of Alabaster is removing fluoride from drinking water as of today. The Alabaster Water Board made this decision after reviewing all the data and its operational procedures. Most communities taking this action have said it is all about safety for employees and the community.
Fluoride has become a hot topic in American cities over the last several years. Much has been made over the fact that other countries around the world stopped adding fluoride to the water years ago.
Earlier this year, NBC News released a story pointing out that Birmingham area residents had fluoride removed without any public notice. Many studies have shown that fluoride can be toxic at certain levels. The City of Birmingham filed a lawsuit, and a judge issued an order forcing the utility to resume fluoridation.
The Alabama Department of Public Health heavily promotes and endorses community water fluoridation, claiming it is an essential tool for preventing tooth decay. They point to underserved communities as a key reason for fluoridation.
In recent years, states like Florida and Utah have removed the controversial additive from water supplies.
