Tuscaloosa Adds 10 Extra Dumpsters for Student Moving Season

The city of Tuscaloosa is giving students who are moving in and out of apartments near the University of Alabama extra options for disposing of household waste this summer.

Classes at the University of Alabama begin on August 19th for the Fall term, but many students arrive before then. Bama Rush, the widely watched weeklong recruitment for new members at certain sororities, will start in the second week of August, for example.

As tens of thousands of students prepare to move to Tuscaloosa or out of their summer arrangements here, the city has placed ten additional roll-off dumpsters at locations around the student housing corridor. Those will be available for a little over a month, from July 20 through August 24.

The dumpsters are marked with move-in/move-out signage and are strictly for residential use, not for contractors or businesses. The city also stipulated that all debris must be placed inside the dumpsters, not left on the ground around them.

Cloverdale Drive at Meador Drive
300 Thomas Street (behind apartment building)
7th Avenue and 12th Street
8th Avenue and 11th Street (in front of Capstone Condominiums)
11th Avenue and 12th Street (in front of Heathrow Apartments)
12th Street behind Tutwiler
12th Street and 14th Avenue
8th Avenue and 13th Street
13th Street behind Jack's

Cardboard boxes, plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and mixed paper can go in blue curbside recycling bins or drop-off recycling trailers around the city.

Electronics can be recycled at the Environmental Services Facility at 3440 Reese Phifer Avenue, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
