Alabamians Get Ready for More Severe Weather & Possible Tornadoes

It is shaping up to be a busy weather week in West Alabama. The Townsquare Media Weather Center is focused on a system that moves through the state later this week.

Timeline

The current forecast is calling for multiple waves of severe weather on Friday. Alabama will see rain making a comeback on Friday as the next storm system approaches, with a chance of showers in the morning and more extensive rainfall expected in the afternoon and evening.

Risk Areas

The Storm Prediction Center has categorized parts of West and Southwest Alabama under a "slight risk" (level 2 out of 5) for severe thunderstorms, while the remainder of the state falls into a "marginal risk" category (level 1 out of 5)."

Potential Threats

The National Weather Service in Birmingham said that the main areas of concern are tornadoes, damaging winds up to 60 mph, large hail, and localized flooding.

James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said, “There is a good bit of uncertainty involving how the storm environment evolves.”

“For now, it looks like there is a higher chance of severe thunderstorms over the southern half of the state, where better instability values will be in place,” said Spann.
