Advisory Alert: Concerning Heat Index Levels Across West Alabama
The temperatures will be on the rise this week with concerning heat index values in portions of Alabama.
The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a “Heat Advisory” from Monday, July 29, at 10 a.m. to Tuesday, July 30, at 9 p.m.
Dangerous Heat Index Values up to 107 Are Expected
This “Heat Advisory” is for Townsquare Media Coverage Area counties: Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, and Tuscaloosa Counties.
It also includes the following counties: Dallas, Marengo, and Marion.
Please remember that these types of temperatures and conditions, like high humidity, could cause heat illnesses.

Stay weather-aware. The National Weather Service in Birmingham has alerted residents that “expansions may be needed for more counties on Tuesday as well as the rest of the week.”
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.
When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stoke.
Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments.
Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
