Muddy Wreck Near Tuscaloosa, Alabama Causes Major Interstate Traffic Jam
UPDATE: Authorities were able to clear this wreck ahead of schedule -- all lanes are now open in Brookwood. Rain continues to move into West Alabama, so drive carefully.
Traffic is backed up for miles on I-20/59 Friday morning, forcing Birmingham-to-Tuscaloosa commuters to seek an alternate route into the city.
Townsquare Media Traffic Reporter "Captain" Ray Allen reports that a grizzly wreck in the Brookwood area is the source of the backup.
Other reports indicate that a truck lost a load of dirt, leaving two lanes blocked and one vehicle overturned. Rain is also moving into the area, slowing things down further.
As of 8:30 a.m., there are no injuries to report and a wrecker has not yet been able to get to the scene. Crews are expecting to have the scene cleared by noon Friday.
Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and seek an alternate route into Tuscaloosa.
