Heads Up Base Running Gives Alabama a 2-0 Win over Troy
Watching every play on the field is important for a team’s success. Due to Alabama’s heads up base running today they were able to send two runners across the plate on just three hits to secure a 2-0 win over Troy.
Right from the get-go, the Crimson Tide put runners on base. Leadoff batter Alexis Mack singled to right-center and then moments later, quickly stole second for her seventh stolen base this season.
She advanced to third on a passed ball and then a wild pitch allowed her to score.
“As a base runner you try to create havoc, we’re smart aggressive,” said head coach Patrick Murphy. “Early in the game your pressure as a base runner, goes through the roof.”

Heads up base running allowed Alabama to increase its lead to two. After a leadoff walk by Bailey Hemphill, Kayla Davis came in as a pinch-runner. On a designed bunt and run, Davis stole second and as she slid realized that third base was left vacant.
A Trojan error allowed Davis to score all the way from first without recording a hit.
“In terms of baserunners, as the game goes along you have to be a lot smarter, you can be less aggressive. But early in the game, go for it,” said Murphy.
The 2-0 lead was enough for starting pitcher Lexi Kilfoyl as she recorded her sixth win on the season.
This was her second consecutive complete game shutout. She allowed three hits and gave up one walk. Kilfoyl ended the game having thrown 83 pitches, nine of those being strikeouts.
