Elected officials in Tuscaloosa are considering whether to revoke the business license of a local gun store over complaints it has become "a public nuisance and dangerous to the public safety, health and welfare."

At their Tuesday evening meeting, the Tuscaloosa City Council adopted its consent agenda, as it does every week. The agenda consists of a handful of minor, routine items that do not require individual consideration and votes, such as workers' compensation claims and the disposal of surplus property.

This Tuesday, the consent agenda also included an item setting a public hearing for the revocation of the business license of Guns and Ammo, LLC, a firearms store located on Greensboro Avenue in central Tuscaloosa.

The full resolution, which is included in the full agenda packet that the city shares online, states that the hearing will be held in two weeks, on Tuesday, September 30th.

The council will consider "the possible revocation of the business license of Guns and Ammo and/or the privilege to renew the business license for Guns and Ammo due to complaints concerning Guns and Ammo having become a public nuisance and dangerous to the public safety, health, and welfare."

A spokesperson for the city declined to say more about the matter until the facts are presented at the hearing later this month.

The store's owner landed in criminal and civil legal trouble in 2019 over allegations that they failed to report a stolen firearm and then sold it to a customer, but there is no word on whether the revocation hearing is related to the same sort of activity or a new issue.
