Good Dog Bar and Dog Park, already a hit in Birmingham and Auburn, will open a new 15,000-square-foot venue in Tuscaloosa that will offer covered turf space, grooming, boarding, daycare for pups and a bar for humans.

"I grew up in Tuscaloosa and lived there for about 10 years," said Clint Carmicheal, co-owner of Good Dog, "Tuscaloosa needs a nice pet resort, especially by campus."

Carmicheal said the park and its partner Pawms Pet Resort is planned for 1706 16th Street, across 15th Street from Tuscaloosa's Annette Shelby Park. The park is free to enter for all people, he said.

"You don't need a dog to have fun," Carmichael added.

The large venue will be a paradise for pets, and with portions of its turf covered Carmichael said the park will be pleasant even when it’s raining or hot outside.

Pet owners and curious visitors alike will find beers, wines and seltzers at the venue's bar, and Carmichael said although they will not offer snacks or meals made on-site, food trucks will usually be found at the park.

The crew at Good Dog is planning to open the Tuscaloosa location in December, but Carmichael said they should be off the ground by January at the latest. In the meantime, Good Dog will host events such as membership giveaways and a virtual Halloween costume contest.

Those who purchase memberships will receive unlimited access to the park, daycare discounts, early access to breed meet-ups and deals on drinks. A portion of Good Dog's profits will go to the Humane Society and the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter
