The Alabama State Troopers are investigating a deadly crash on Alabama Highway 216 in Tuscaloosa County that happened late Saturday night, they have confirmed.

Sergeant Reginal M. King confirmed the fatal accident to the Thread on Sunday morning but said the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is still collecting information about what happened and will release information about those involved after more investigation.

The collision reportedly happened on Alabama Highway 216, or Old Birmingham Highway, near its intersection with Robinson Road no far from Hurricane Creek Park in Tuscaloosa County.

Tuscaloosa City Council President Kip Tyner said on Facebook that at least one person was killed in the accident, and Sergeant King confirmed that information Sunday morning.

UPDATE: King shared details of the deadly crash Sunday evening.

He said the victim was Ashley M. Kornegay, a 36-year-old Tuscaloosa woman, who was a passenger in a 2007 GMC Yukon on Highway 216 around 11:30 p.m. Saturday night.

King said Kornegay's Yukon she was a passenger in, left the roadway and struck a tree. Kornegay was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver, a 35-year-old Cottondale woman, a 19-year-old Cottondale woman and a 14-year-old were all injured in the GMC and taken to an area hospital for treatment.
